Soeul Craft

Brass Artist Aeyoung Kim loves the name 'Soeul' which means 'a little village' in Korean. With the degree in Buddhism sculpture from Gyeongju; the capital of the ancient kingdom of Shilla (57 BC – 935 AD), and Masters in Metal craft, she naturally weaves the Shilla era sensibilities and modern day everyday crafts.

Her handle series explores the concept that everyone wants something they don't have and wanting to create a new 'thing' that nobody has yet. So for a simple functional object such as a cup, depending on what handles craftsman places for a handle, it can become a new object. So she started to explore different handle shapes that makes the user to hold the object differently with two hands.
